Media outlets and international news are currently focusing on the deadliest earthquakes that severely hit the Southeastern part of Turkey and large parts of Northern Syria, leading to the death toll continuously rising and having passed the threshold of 6,000 within the past few days.
\nAll over the world, people express their condolences at the sight of desperate civilians trapped under the rubble and thousands of families being left without shelter and experiencing the death of their beloved ones firsthand. The earthquake caused large collateral damages and while people in Turkey also mourn the death of family members and friends, while hoping for the successful retrieval of those that survived the earthquake, the Syrian population is heading towards the abyss.
\nWar, economic stagnation, political fragmentation, and foreign incursions have left Syria\u2019s civilian population in dire living conditions and steadily contributed to the increase of their plight as millions of people were subjected to torture, enforced disappearances, and severe human rights violations, especially in those areas that are still occupied by Turkish-backed militias.
\nThe lack of basic services and logistical management further severely impairs rescue operations, in addition to international aid provisions being solely centered upon Turkey, leading to many Syrians asking the international community and particularly the Arab States to not forget the suffering of the Syrian people. The United Nations had just announced the cessation of international aid from Turkey to Syria due to \u201elogistical issues\u201c while relief teams and medical aid had been immediately sent to Turkey from different countries, which again displays the double standards when it comes to humanitarian responses.
\nSyrians are therefore again abandoned to an uncertain fate, after having become the victim of forced displacement, killings, and suppressions for many years with the international community not interfering on behalf of the civilian population.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
