Northeast Syria: Airstrike kills at least one civilian and injures two

A deadly airstrike rocked the town of Amuda in the west of Qamishli late on Thursday evening when a Turkish attack targeted a car carrying three civilians. Joan Suleiman Muhammad (34 years old), a dedicated employee of the French organization “ACTD”, lost his life, while his wife and sister-in-law were injured.

Muhammad was dedicated to providing social support to the displaced people of Sere Kaniye in the Sere Kaniye camp in Hasaka as part of the activities of “ACTD”. The tragic incident occurred in the late hours between Thursday and Friday.

Furthermore, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria condemned the airstrike in a written statement. It emphasized that such attacks, especially recently, endanger the pursuit of stability and public efforts. The escalating attack situation since October 4 is condemned as a blatant disregard for moral rules and laws. This is considered a full-fledged war crime that has no justification whatsoever.

The Autonomous Administration accused Turkey of deliberately violating moral and legal norms, which has a negative impact on stabilization efforts and life services in the region. Around 5 million people live in these affected areas, including displaced people from various Syrian regions as well as forcibly displaced people from Ras al-Ain, Serê Kaniyeh, Girê Spi, Tal Abyad, and the occupied territories.

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria is sounding the alarm over Turkey’s aggressive attacks, which not only threaten the security and stability of the region. Still, it could also potentially lead to chaos and terrorism, according to the official statement.

The Autonomous Administration emphasizes the urgent need for clear and transparent positions by all forces that have an interest in stability in the affected regions and want to actively engage against terrorism. The statement calls for decisive action to be taken against the continued aggression and for those responsible for civilian casualties to be held accountable. “It is essential to take deterrent measures to prevent Turkey from further acts of aggression. At the same time, we must fight terrorism together to prevent a repetition of such aggression,” the Autonomous Administration clearly demanded.

The declaration emphasizes that any actions that lead to violations of international and criminal law must be regarded as acts of violence and war crimes. The Autonomous Administration appeals to the international community to condemn these violations of international law and to take appropriate measures to protect the civilian population.
