In an official statement on Monday, the U.S. Department of Defense released alarming statistics on the number of attacks on its military bases in Syria and Iraq since the 17th of this month. The report recorded a total of 23 attacks perpetrated during that period. Among the incidents, Iranian news agency “Tasnim” reported that Iranian militias attacked a U.S. base in Al-Omar field in Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria with 15 missiles last Monday morning. This incident was seen as a response to a previous U.S. airstrike on trucks on the Syrian-Iraqi border.
The U.S. Department of Defense stated that at least 14 attacks occurred in Iraq and nine in Syria between Oct. 17 and Oct. 30. The attacks were coordinated using a combination of offensive drones and missiles, bringing the total number of attacks on U.S. bases to 23.
In a further development, the Pentagon said Thursday that about 900 additional U.S. troops have been deployed or recently redeployed to the Middle East to ensure the safety of American soldiers in the face of escalating attacks by pro-Iran groups in the region.
The U.S. Army stressed that it is now taking decisive military action in self-defense to ensure the safety of its troops, who are facing increased attacks and targeting by “Iranian-backed groups.” In an Oct. 29 interview with the U.S. network CBS, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan commented on recent U.S. attacks on Iranian Revolutionary Guard facilities in Syria and Iraq. Sullivan warned representatives of the Iranian regime and stressed that the U.S. is prepared to respond appropriately to renewed attacks against American bases.
