The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) has issued a public statement on the attacks in Gaza. The SDC said it has been following the dangerous developments, tragic events and humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and condemns in the strongest possible terms the attacks against civilians and the targeting of the Baptist Hospital since 7 October until today.
The Syrian Democratic Council expressed its deep sorrow at the loss of civilian lives and its condolences to the families of the victims. The council stressed the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities, take effective measures to stop the escalation and end the bloodshed, refrain from targeting civilians, and adhere to the highest level of commitment to human rights and international humanitarian law.
The statement went on to say: “It stresses the need for serious efforts to reinvigorate the peace process and the importance of implementing international legitimacy resolutions affirming the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to find a just and lasting solution to the conflict. Through solidarity and joint efforts, a better future for the region can be built and the protection of human life and dignity for all can be guaranteed. ”
AANES condemns attacks and recalls Turkish aggression
Bedran Çiya Kurd, Co-Chair of the External Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), also posted a message of condemnation on the X platform. Kurd said in his statement: “Targeting Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza is considered a war crime against humanity. We express our deepest sympathies with the victims. It is of great urgency that the international community assume its responsibility regarding deescalating the violence taking place in the region.”
In his statement, Kurd also referred to the Turkish state’s attacks on northern and eastern Syria, saying: “In this cycle of violence, the Turkish regime also targets civilians and infrastructure in northern and eastern Syria. Turkey’s recent bombings of vital facilities aimed at depriving civilians of the most basic means of life amounts to war crimes. These crimes cannot be overlooked and those responsible must be held accountable. We call on everyone to use the language of dialogue.”
