AANES press release on the regional impact of Turkish attacks

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) held a press conference to announce the latest results of the Turkish state’s attacks on the areas of Northern Syria from 5 to 9 October. Reading the statement, Talaat Younis, Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration in the Jazera region, said that under false pretexts and with the aim of destroying the region’s economic, humanitarian and security capabilities, Turkey attacked the region from 5 to 9 October with various types of destructive weapons targeting service and vital facilities and infrastructure.

Children killed by the Turkish state

The Turkish state carried out 580 air and ground attacks in the areas governed by the Autonomous Administration. As a result of the attacks, 44 people were killed and 55 wounded. Younis announced the final outcome of the Turkish strikes on the region, noting that more than 5 million citizens were affected as a result of the targeting of 17 facilities and sites, including the Suwaydiya station, a vital source of electricity and gas for northeastern Syria. In addition, 11 power stations were targeted, affecting more than two million people in various regions. In the Al-Jazera region, two water stations were damaged after Turkey targeted 18 stations and cut off electricity. Two hospitals in Al-Jazera and Kobani were completely out of action as a result of the Turkish state’s attacks.

Another war crime committed by Turkey was the targeting of 48 education centers. AANES reported that as a result of the attacks, the educational process was halted and thousands of students were deprived of their education. Furthermore, two children were killed and one girl was injured in the Turkish attacks. Younis also said that a training academy of the Internal Security Forces in Rmelan, which is specialized in combating drugs, was also completely destroyed, depriving the community of protection and awareness programmes.

AANES condemns attack on Gaza hospital

The press conference went on to condemn the targeting of a hospital in Gaza, resulting in civilian casualties, including children, adding: “Everyone must strive to prevent the development of violence and resolve all issues through dialogue. We also call on all organizations and parties to contribute to the achievement of stabilization”.

AANES concluded the press release by calling on “all active forces in Syria, the United Nations and human rights institutions, the Security Council, social and civil organizations to take a clear position on Turkey’s attacks”.
