ISIS cell dismantled, 7 ISIS members arrested in Deir ez-Zor

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Media Center stated that, as part of the joint operations against ISIS, the SDF Anti-Terrorism Units (YAT), together with the international coalition, participated in precision security operations targeting an ISIS terrorist cell in the town of Al-Shahil in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

According to the SDF, after careful surveillance, the participating forces conducted an airdrop and raided the terrorist hideout, capturing seven individuals who had committed multiple acts of terrorism against both security forces and civilians in the area. The captured terrorist cell was reportedly actively involved in providing weapons, ammunition and financial support to other cells in the area. The SDF added that the captured ISIS members took advantage of the events that took place in the Deir ez-Zor countryside last month to carry out their terrorist activities.

During the operations, 7 ISIS members were captured and various weapons, military equipment and documents were confiscated. The SDF concluded its statement with the following words: “Our forces affirm their unwavering commitment to relentlessly pursue ISIS cells and to cut off their sources of support in the region, all in pursuit of maintaining security and stability in our area.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that two ISIS emirs were arrested in the joint security operation. SOHR sources confirmed that one of those arrested was responsible for financing ISIS cells and both were responsible for organizing operations in SDF-held areas in northeastern Syria.
