On Tuesday, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives highlighted the urgent need to ensure the protection of civilians in Northeastern Syria and spare civilian facilities from further attacks.
In an interview with the local North Press agency, the chairman of the Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee stressed the crucial importance of protecting civilians and the infrastructure in this region. The Republican representative stated: “The leadership of the international coalition lies in the hands of the United States. The fight against the terrorist organization ISIS must remain the primary and prioritized mission.”
The US Senator from New South Wales David Schubreich
In a similar context, expressed his concerns in a written statement about the ongoing military attacks and human rights violations by the Turkish government against the Kurdish people and communities within the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria. He added: “I am deeply concerned by the Turkish government’s ongoing military operations and human rights violations against the Kurdish people and communities living in the autonomous region in North and East Syria.”
For his part, David Schubreich emphasized that Turkey’s violations against the Kurdish people will not be condoned. He also urged Turkey to immediately cease its attacks.
In recent weeks, Turkey has launched violent attacks on various areas in Northeastern Syria, targeting vital facilities and infrastructure, including oil, gas, water and electricity sources. The number of bombings in Northeast Syria by Turkey reached more than 200 times in just four days.
Despite many people being injured, there is still no official international aid for the affected population and no one is there to support those affected for the sake of making the bloodshed stop.
