Condemnation of Erdogan’s hypocritical stance

The Democratic Regions Party (DBP), the Green Left Party (YSP), the Free Women’s Movement (TJA) and the Med Federation of Associations for Legal Aid and Solidarity with Families of Prisoners and Convicts (MED TUHAD-FED) issued a statement on Turkey’s attacks on north and east Syria. During the press conference held at the DBP headquarters in Diyarbakir, the hypocritical statements of Turkish President Erdogan on Palestine were condemned.

Turkish aggression on par with ISIS attacks

DBP Co-chair Saliha Aydeniz said that the attacks that have been going on since 5 October are no different from ISIS attacks, adding, “These attacks are crimes against humanity. The whole world, human rights institutions and organizations are silent about these attacks.”

Aydeniz also said that the geography of the Middle East was being redesigned: “In this restructuring, they want to crush the peoples. Recently, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that they would overthrow the system in Rojava and attack the habitats. Netanyahu said the same thing about Gaza. While the whole world reacted to Netanyahu’s words, nobody said a word about what Hakan Fidan said. When we look at both speeches, we see that they are the product of the same mentality. There must also be a voice for Rojava. Those who applauded Hakan Fidan encouraged Netanyahu.”

Blatant hostility to Kurds

Referring to Turkish President Erdogan’s statements on Palestine, Aydeniz said: “Erdogan says that places of worship, hospitals, mosques and schools are being mercilessly bombed and the world is silent. He asks: ‘Where are human rights?’ We say; you bombed a mosque in Maxmur and a hospital in Derik. You wounded 5 women working in a cotton field. You killed 2 children aged 9 and 10 in Ain Isa. Where is the law, where are human rights? There is open hostility towards the Kurds here.”

The UN has to fulfill its role

Stating that everyone should speak out against the attacks, Aydeniz made the following calls: “If you want to democratize the Middle East, you have to solve the Palestinian, Israeli and Kurdish problems. Our other call is to the United Nations (UN). Just writing a report will not work. You have to do your part now. The UN must fulfill its role and mission in the attacks on life in Efrin, Serekaniye and Gri Spi. Our last call is on the airspace; Russia, America and France must close their airspace. Rojava is under a severe embargo. This embargo must be lifted.”
