Since 4 October, the Turkish army has continued its attacks on northern and eastern Syria. The attacks target infrastructure, electricity, water and oil facilities, settlements and kill civilians. In an interview with the ANHA news agency, Zedan al-Asi, co-chair of the Defence Office of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), described the attacks as a continuation of Turkey’s plan to destroy the region.
Zedan al-Asi said: “From day one, the Turkish occupying state wanted to destroy all the administrations and projects. When the Turkish state realized that it could not defeat the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the will of the people, it started to destroy the infrastructure of the region. Targeting the infrastructure of the region is a war crime against the people of north and east Syria.”
Al-Asi stressed that the Turkish state is trying to destroy all sources of life in order to displace the population, change the demography of the region and ultimately thwart the autonomous administration project. Turkey is working to exploit global opportunities and circumstances and use them for its own interests, al-Asi said, adding that the strikes have the approval of the international coalition, particularly the United States: “Turkish warplanes are entering the airspace controlled by the international coalition, so there must be US approval. The international community’s silence on these attacks will hinder the fight against ISIS.”
Finally, al-Asi said that their forces will go to the battle fronts and confront the factions coming from Turkey, which will give ISIS a chance to return to the region and the world will suffer as a result.
