During the early hours of yesterday into today, the region of northern and eastern Syria was shaken by a series of intense bombardments carried out by the Turkish army, causing significant material damage and tragic loss of life. Alarming reports of Turkish airstrikes on villages to the north and west of Kobani in northern Syria, using heavy shelling, were released last night.
In addition, our correspondent reported that Turkish warplanes targeted the important oil fields of Kardahul and Odeh in the Trspispi region and pounded the area around Tal Ceyhan with artillery shells. The widespread impact of these attacks also affects the northern outskirts of Minbich, as well as the Tal Rifaat area to the north of Aleppo city, where thousands of people previously displaced from Afrin live.
Meanwhile, in a worrisome context, the local security forces, known as “Asayish,” recalled a devastating incident in 2019, when a Turkish bomb attack on their headquarters in the Gujarat region killed several of their members and seriously injured others. This occurred in the Derik countryside in far eastern Syria.
The escalations of violence in this already troubled region have startled the global public and once again raised urgent questions about the ongoing instability and impact of the conflict in Syria. The international community is anxiously following developments and hopes for an early resolution that can restore peace and security to this region.
