Mazloum Abdi, the general commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), confirmed in a post on the X-Platform that Turkey bombed 145 locations in northern and eastern Syria within 72 hours, including civilian infrastructure such as power, water, and energy stations.
Abdi wrote in the post on Sunday, “The latest Turkish attack, which has aggressive political intentions, directly targeted self-administration in an effort to cripple the civilian life. It is an attack on international efforts and the work of civil society organizations and civil institutions that have dedicated themselves to the stability of the region and the local population after the defeat of IS.”
In the night from Wednesday to Thursday, Turkey launched a wave of attacks against the civilian infrastructure of northern and eastern Syria. Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan openly announced these attacks. Since then, vital facilities have been attacked, leaving nearly two million people without electricity and, in some cases, without water.
Moreover, nine civilians have been killed and 19 others injured. The staggering attacks further exacerbated the humanitarian situation in the distressed region. Abdi further wrote that the destruction of infrastructure would constitute a war crime and could not be described as anything else.
