Starting this morning, Turkish army drones have been bombing areas in northern Syria under the control of the Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria (AANES). Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan previously announced that they would bomb infrastructure and energy facilities in the region. He claimed that the attackers from the Ankara attack had entered Turkey via Syria and had also been trained there.
These claims were denied and refuted by representatives of the region. Nevertheless, it did not stop Turkey from flying several attacks on civilian facilities in the region, killing several civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure.
Bedran Ciya Kurd, co-chair of AANES’ Office of Foreign Relations, released a statement on Thursday regarding Turkey’s attacks, saying that the Turkish attacks happened without any justification.
“These actions are based on false scenarios and made-up scenarios that are far from reality and are used by Turkey to justify its vicious plans to persecute civilians,” Bedran Ciya Kurd wrote on X Platform. He added that Turkey wants to distract from the internal crises that have existed for 100 years.
He called for those responsible for the crimes committed to be held accountable. Otherwise, these crimes would not stop. The co-chair of the Foreign Office also warned against the intensification of the humanitarian crisis in the region.
“We call on the international community and the guarantor powers, including the United States and Russia, to take an honest and clear stance,” Ciya Kurd further wrote. The U.S. is deployed in AANES as part of the international anti-IS coalition with several hundred troops. Russia also has a presence in Syria alongside Assad and is a buffer between AANES and Turkish-occupied areas in some parts of northern Syria.
Bedran Ciya Kurd clarifies that silence and indifference are unacceptable in the face of clear crimes against civilian infrastructure and civilians. He said that he stands by the side of the population and will use all legitimate rights without hesitation to protect their existence and achievements.
