YSP: Turkish parliament has historic responsibility to resolve Kurdish question

Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar and İbrahim Akın, co-spokespersons of the Green Left Party (YSP), held a press conference with all the deputies in Parliament. Referring to the democratic solution of the Kurdish question, isolation and constitutional change, YSP co-spokesperson Uçar said, “Parliament has a historical responsibility and duty in the solution of the Kurdish question”.

Uçar continued as follows: “One of the main problems in the country today is the politics of the unresolved Kurdish question, which is the main cause of the multiple crises in Turkey”. Uçar said that the people of Turkey are paying a higher price every day as a result of the unsolved Kurdish question, adding that poverty is increasing exponentially as the environment of violence and conflict continues. Referring to the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, Uçar stated that the intensified absolute isolation, which is contrary to the relevant international conventions signed by Turkey, universal legal principles and the Constitution, has been going on for 30 months in a state of absolute non-communication. He is not allowed to meet his family or his lawyers.

In her speech, Uçar spoke about the crucial role of the Kurdish question: “Today, the Kurdish question and isolation is not only the problem of the Kurdish people, it is the problem of all peoples. The unresolved Kurdish question also means hunger and misery for the youth, laborers, women and children. The most real and imperative responsibility of everyone and every group of people who want to build a democratic Turkey is to play an active role in the democratic and peaceful solution of the Kurdish question and the lifting of the isolation as a preliminary step.”

Calling on all political parties and politicians under the roof of Parliament to take responsibility, YSP said: “In this context, every word to be spoken and every step to be taken will be more valuable than ever. Because there is no time to waste and no values to lose”. Asked about the discussion on the constitutional amendment process, the answer was as follows: “The most important thing is what kind of draft constitution will be presented to us. A constitution that defends the values of the society in Turkey and the democratic values is also within our struggle. If such a draft comes, we will be able to give strength”.
