Following upheavals in Deir-Er-Zoor: Meeting held to discuss latest events

Recently, Deir-er-Zoor was ridden by internal strife and skirmishes that culminated into the ousting of a well known military commander due to allegations of power abuse and mismanagement.

Following this event, a joint meeting has been held in North and East Syria, joined by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Ethan Goldrich, and the commander of Operation Inherent Resolve, Major General Joel Foyle.

Subsequently the Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces issued the following:

“Our forces, the Syrian Democratic Forces and the clans of the region are in one row and agreed in advance during previous meetings on the need to enhance security and stability in North and East Syria. The meeting was attended by the leadership of our forces and the leaders and notables of the region who had a positive influence on the process of uniting and supporting construction operations during the last period”.

It was further stated that the local forces had finished their sweeping operations which were carried out in the cities of Al-Busairah and Sheihl.

Lastly, the statement reinforced that Ibrahim al-Hafel is still wanted by local forces due to “causing the bloodshed of our fighters and our people, displacing civilians, sabotaging civil service institutions, and claiming attempts to ignite sedition based on orders from external parties, which were suppressed by the efforts and awareness of our people and people in Deir ez-Zor and the notables of the region”.

Efforts to calm the situation in Deir-Er-Zoor are still undergoing amid the incited crisis and chaos.
