The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) reiterated its call on the international community to initiate the judicial process for the trial of ISIS detainees and called for cooperation in establishing centers for the rehabilitation of children and minors and their integration into society.
In its statement, the Autonomous Administration said that there were great difficulties in finding space, meeting prison needs and protecting the region from the threat of ISIS. The administration urged the international community to facilitate and support the judicial process of ISIS prisoners and to ensure social and international justice.
The statement also made a specific call concerning the children of ISIS: “The case of the children of ISIS detainees is dangerous. Educational centers should be opened for their reintegration into society. They are victims of a terrorist ideology. Educating them will prevent a future threat that will affect the whole world. Any delay in this file increases the severity of the situation.”
In conclusion, it was reaffirmed that the appeals to the international community were made in order to limit the spread of extremist ideology and to protect the best interests of the constituents of the region, and that AANES has shown its full willingness to be attentive, careful, open and transparent in sharing with the international community and relevant organizations all its plans and programmes to protect the future of children and promote their rights.
In June, the AANES announced that it would begin the trial of more than 10,000 ISIS members. AANES said its decision was taken in light of its repeated appeals to the international community to try the criminal ISIS mercenaries. The international community’s silence is ongoing.
