Targeted hospitals and civilian casualties – How Turkey’s continuous barrages put Syrians in immediate danger
Large parts of North and East Syria are continuously affected by Turkey’s merciless bombardment campaigns through violent airstrikes and artillery which culminated into the targeting of a hospital in Tell Rif’aat and caused the death of many civilians while further leaving others severely injured.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights the artillery bombings affected the city center of Tell Rif’aat, located in Northern Aleppo whereby additional shelling targeted the „Al-Bazaar“ square and was followed by violent drone attacks on several villages and towns in Aleppo.
Several areas in Northern Syria have recently witnessed a dangerous military escalation since last Monday after the killing of a Russian soldier and the wounding of 3 others through Turkish barrages in which heavy artillery and rockets were used as well as drones and warplanes.
The bombardments were felt in the towns of Maraanaz, Tat Marash, Soghanka, Abyan and Sheikh Issa, in addition to military sites of the Syrian government forces in the countryside of Aleppo leading to many casualties and wounded people. As a consequence, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria harshly condemned Turkey’s attacks on the region of Ash-Shahba, Manbij and Qamishli in an official statement while simultaneously calling on the international Coalition and Russia as well as the Central government in Damascus to clarify their respective positions regarding the latest escalation. Furthermore, it was demanded that the respective entities should put more pressure on the Turkish State in order to coerce the latter to immediately cease its military operations which exacerbates the security situation in the region.
