Pursuant to the North Press Agency, the Department of External Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria officially announced that the number of Syrian nationals that were evacuated from Sudan has increased up to 341, including women and children, in addition to three bodies over the course of 3 flights.
Afterwards, a written statement was issued to the public opinion regarding the evacuation of those Syrians, currently caught in Sudan’s crossfire as the Central Government in Damascus continues to turn a blind eye on the issue. In the statement, AANES affirmed its willingness to continue carrying out rescue missions of Syrian nationals, stuck in Sudan, stating that more than 150 people, including women and children, were repatriated to the city of Qamishli in the first weeks of May.
The rescue missions in fact, occurred in the context of AANES’ launched initiatives on April 18, 2023, which further guaranteed in its clauses the repatriation of Syrian refugees to their areas of origin, encompassing both those that fled Syria and live one exile as well as Syrians, currently stuck in Sudan.
The intensifying armed conflict in Sudan commenced with rival factions of the military Sudanese government, notably the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) under the command of Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo and rival military general Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, engaging in violent clashes and skirmishes on April 15, 2023 that extended from the capital Khartoum to the Dafur region.
In fact, the Department of External Relations of AANES reaffirmed the operations in Sudan to be part of their humanitarian and national duty towards the Syrian population and lastly, thanked all parties that partook in the evacuation process and contributed to its success.
