Intensified Turkish drone strikes in northeastern Syria kill another SDF fighter

The Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) released a statement on the death of SDF fighter Sabri Ahmed Abdullah (nom de guerre Mazlum Dogan) as a result of a Turkish drone strike on a vehicle in Kobani. According to the statement, the vehicle in which Abdullah was returning to his post was targeted.

On April 14, nearly a week after the assassination attempt on SDF General Commander Mazlum Abdi, another commander of SDF was also killed in an attack by Turkish drones on a moving vehicle near the Turkish border. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated that the Turkish state carried out 12 drone strikes in 2023, killing 15 people. Last year, at least 130 drone strikes were carried out, killing 87 people and injuring 151. Civilians have also been killed in the attacks, most recently 3 children near Til Temir.

The Democratic Society Movement (TEV DEM) issued a statement on the Turkish attacks. Co-chair of the Human Rights Organization in the Euphrates region, Ahmed Dawoud, read a statement saying that the ongoing violations and continuous movements of the Turkish state in North and East Syria directly threaten the lives of civilians. It was underlined that such targeting of the region is a real threat to the future of the region. It also poses a threat to the future of the political solution in Syria and undermines international efforts to establish security and peace in the region. TEV DEM called on international and regional parties to “take urgent measures to stop the Turkish government’s hostile actions against the areas in northern Syria whose people are fighting ISIS terrorism instead of the whole world.”
