A horrific incident, similar to the latest death of young Moroccan child Rayyan, occurred in the Kobani countryside, located in Northern Aleppo when young 8-year-old Syrian child Saleh Abdo Sheikho fell into a 120 meters deep artesian well in his village of Dihaban.
According to a local media outlet „Saleh fell into the well at about 12:00 AM on Saturday, while rescue operations to save him continued until 10:30 PM, however, all efforts sadly vanished after the lifeless body of the young child was retrieved“.
It was further reported that Saleh first had fallen 50 meters deep and his voice could still be heard, however, it quickly disappeared, leading the local rescue and aid staff to try to save him by lowering a rope to pull him out. But after the child could not be saved and fell even deeper into the well, a small camera was lowered, which unfortunately confirmed the death of the young child.
After 11 hours of relentless rescue attempts to avoid the same tragic catastrophe that had also occurred in Morocco, people expressed their grief and sadness and mourned over the heartbreaking scene as the dead body was eventually retrieved.
The dreadful incident consequently stirred a widespread wave of dejection among people in the region, leading them to express their solidarity over social media networks, reverberating to local and international news outlets.
