The Peoples’ Democratic Party very likely to carry on under the emblem of Green Left Party within the Labour and Freedom Alliance
Owing to an expectative ban of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), the party determined to participate in the elections under the banner and emblem of the Green Left Party. An application was made for the postponement of the court, which was set on April 11 for the party to defend, due to the intensity of the election work. HDP stated that if its application is not approved by the Constitutional Court, it will continue as the Green Left Party. The party’s appeal for an adjournment earlier this year was rejected.
While HDP is taking measures against the closure case, on the other hand, it has been negotiating with other parties of the Labour and Freedom Alliance, of which it is a part, to decide on the strategy of presidential candidacy and parliamentary elections. However, the visit of CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the presidential candidate of the Nation Alliance, to the headquarters of HDP on Saturday will be decisive. Although HDP’s decision on the presidential candidacy will depend on the results of this meeting, the final decision will be made during a meeting of the Labour and Freedom Alliance. Another issue discussed at the meeting was whether the alliance should enter the parliamentary elections with a single list.
As a result of the alliance’s meeting held on March 16, the parties reached a consensus. The Labour and Freedom Alliance published a final declaration on the agreement. In the declaration, it is stated that they will continue the process they started as a struggle alliance as an election alliance from now on. According to the statement, the common stance regarding the presidential election will be announced at a press conference as soon as possible. The last words of the joint statement are as follows: “With the strength we derive from the struggle of women who colored the streets purple on March 8, we will fill the Newroz and May 1 squares. We will win May 15 with all the forces of democracy. We will put an end to the one-man regime.”
