SDF: “Instead of helping the earthquake victims, the Turkish government resorts to war and hatred against our region”

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) published on March 1 a summary of the attacks and escalations by the Turkish army and its allied Syrian opposition groups on the self-government of northern and eastern Syria since the devastating February 6 earthquake.
The press release notes that despite international calls for de-escalation and facilitation of humanitarian assistance to earthquake victims, the Turkish government and Syrian opposition groups under Turkish influence are prioritizing war and hatred against the region.
According to this information, since the earthquake on February 6, four civilians have been killed and three other people seriously injured by attacks by the Turkish armed forces and their allied militias.

The SDF published the following information for the period:
– 24 armed attacks with heavy artillery and tanks
– 2 armed attacks by the Turkish Air Force
– at least 348 cases of reconnaissance flights by the Turkish army
– Syrian airspace was violated 27 times by planes or helicopters operated by the Turkish Air Force
– 2 car bomb attacks in Aleppo and al-Hasakah with the participation of the Turkish secret service
– 4 civilians were killed, including a 70-year-old displaced person from the city of Afrin
– Damage to civilian property and lands

The statement also mentioned that the Türkiye was deliberately disseminating lies to cover up the deaths of civilians. A civilian who was killed was said to be behind the deadly attack on Taksim Square in Istanbul, although the accused had nothing to do with politics or the military.
Finally, it was explained that such attacks are only possible because there are no international mechanisms to stop them, so crimes against civilians, targeted killings, displacements, and demographic change continue.
The SDF said it would not address the provocations but would focus on the current emergency after the earthquake and called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to put in place mechanisms to stop the Turkish attacks.
