According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the Turkish Gendarmerie has perpetrated numerous human rights violations against Syrian civilians within the last month, leading to 6 people being shot and two women severely injured at the Syrian-Turkish border.
According to the latest reports, several civilians, hailing from the regions of Deir-Er-Zoor, Northern Al-Hassaka and the Western part of Hama, were killed by Turkish police officers in the month of January after attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border for fleeing their war-raged home country.
In addition to the shooting of Syrian refugees, the Turkish border police has further engaged in severe human rights abuses by excruciatingly beating civilians with hard objects. These incidents have occurred in the areas of Abu Rasin in Northern Al-Hassaka, where several victims of police violence were transferred to a dispensary in Al-Darbasiyya for receiving appropriate medical treatment. In the Western part of Ras Al-Ain two women were severely beaten and injured by Turkish police officers.
In total, the number of civilians, killed by Turkish Gendarmerie officers near the Syrian-Turkish border has risen up to 6 civilians since the beginning of the year 2023, whereby the death cases occurred in the countryside of Al-Hassaka, Idlib and the countryside of Aleppo.
