On Monday, January 9, 2023, a Spanish delegation, headed by Mr. “Guillermo Anguera,” advisor at the Spanish Foreign Ministry, visited the region of North and East Syria.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the political situation in Syria and the necessity to resolve the Syrian crisis in accordance with the United Nations Resolution 2254, and the humanitarian, economic and security situation in the region.
Fener Al-Kait stated that the Autonomous Administration adopts the Syrian national dialogue as a basis for achieving stability and a fair political solution in the interest of all Syrians. The administration further seeks to preserve its unity, while emphasizing that the unity of Syria begins with the ending of the Turkish occupation and its practices against the Syrian identity and against the Syrians without exception.
He continued and expounded that the Syrian-Turkish rapprochement is not in the interest of Syria and the Syrians after all the incitement, wars, occupation and terrorism caused by Turkey.
He noted that the continued closure of the Al-Yarubiyah crossing (Tal Koçer) increases the negative economic and humanitarian consequences, and poses an injustice to the million people who live in North and East Syria, whether from they hail from the areas or settled in there from other parts of Syria.
Moreover, he stressed that Turkey’s threat to invade North and East Syria will lead to a new humanitarian catastrophe, displacement and killing, and the return of terrorism again, and this contradicts the will of the international coalition to maintain peace and security in North and East Syria.
In turn, Guillermo Angera said, “I would like to thank the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces for maintaining security and stability in the region and fighting ISIS.”
Guillermo Angera stressed Spain’s role in supporting the Autonomous Administration in all humanitarian, economic and security aspects through the international coalition.
At the end of the meeting, two women and 13 children from ISIS families were handed over, according to an official handover document between the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and the State of Spain.
