Russia forcefully annexes Ukrainian regions – New escalations in the war between Russia and the Ukraine

As the Russian-Ukrainian war further continues with no possible political solution in sight, new escalations additionally rendered conflict resolution more difficult and intricate with serious repercussions that dangerously affect Europe.

Following the continuation of the brutal war, the same scenario just as in 2014, when Russia annexed the Crimea Island, was again repeated. The Russian army managed to annex 4 Ukrainian regions at once, namely Donetsk, Lugansk and Kherson and Zaporozhye following the conduction of a controversial referendum, which was classified as a „sham referendum“ by many media outlets.

US President Joe Biden also announced that his government will refuse to acknowledge the results of the referendum, describing it as illicit, which further ignited mutual tensions between both countries and might spark a new full-fledged conflict. Simultaneously, an explosion has occurred in the Baltic Sea, targeting the Russian „Nord Stream“ gas pipeline, whereby the perpetrators of this attack are still unknown.

Pursuant to the Russian Foreign Ministry „the leaks in the Nord Stream gas pipeline occurred in an area controlled by the US intelligence service“.

According to the German newspaper „Der Spiegel“ the US intelligence had warned the German government of a planned attack against the Nord Stream pipelines, whereby all members of the European Union demand a profound investigation, in order to identify the perpetrators of the attack.

Meanwhile, these new developments further propelled military hostilities and bear the potential risk of leading to a new unprecedented escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian war that will surely reverberate in the European Union and the USA.
